Buy it Fix it

In these videos I attempt to repair various items. Can I fix them?
I've been interested in electronics and computers since I was a child, and that was quite some time ago! (although some may argue that I still act like a child at times!). When I was a kid I used to take things apart to see how they worked, and occasionally could manage to put them back together!
My career started repairing amusement machines and video games back in the 80's - 2000's as I've always liked computer games and electronics.
I've also written computer software, and built and designed various circuits over the years, like making things with Arduino type boards and reverse engineering hardware and software.

I don't like these machines. But thumbs up for your patience
Mick! Mate! I CANNOT believe you put milk in that coffee without trying it first! It's absolutely outrageous! I think we need a Poll for people to state if they are suitably outraged or not. This whole thing has made me rethink your current status as 'Cool Dude', seriously...... ! I can't believe the internet is not exploding over this story right now... 😏
Wow surprised that thing definitely what I called designed to be Dispose of and not repaired..
I think an engineering/R&D error!
Valves? Aren't they called Tubes?
Googling the operation of the device might have helped. 1 - its not going to work without water. 2 - Button press combinations do different things. 3 - Red LED means bad, Green means good. Sorry but you waste so much time mucking about seemingly randomly pressing buttons hoping that something will change each time you press a button on some of these videos its getting painful to watch.
😂😂😂
PTC = Positive Temperature Coefficient NTC = Negative Temperature Coefficient After fitting the fixed resistors I think I would of heated the sensor to check over heating still is reported. Other than that a great video.
Doom! Love it.😂
Made me laugh 😂.
Why not test the pot first?
Well done Mick. Well thought through as always. Hope that coffee tasted as good as it looked.
Question homie. How many times did you watch this video to put that nightmare back together?
I bet that was the best cup of coffee in a long time. 😅
Wow! That was a marathon. I think I would have given up long before getting anywhere near fixing it, so I am hugely impressed with your sheer determination not to be beaten by the bugger. I hope you enjoyed your coffee - you really deserve it. Personally I prefer my espresso machine because there is no waste plastic when I am done and it is so much cheaper per cup, but my Missus won't be budged from her Nespresso - though it is much simpler than this one. Anyway, fantastic video with more ups and downs than a ride at Alton Towers!
Congrats with this repair. I worked with these machines two or three times before, and I know it's a real nightmare...all plastic pieces, electronics, pumps, heat... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Is this all really necessary to make a coffee?? Nasty 'unsevicable' design. You have the patience of a saint!
Brave man, well done. When they come in the repair cafe I run the other way.
dude this was so painful to watch. idk how many digital devices you've personally used before but holding the power button for a while is quite common, on most devices you need to hold it for 2-3 seconds which you never did until the end of the video. new flash chip is probably fine. it felt like you were not holding the button long enough on purpose
Hi Mick , well done ,top marks for not giving up on one sod of a machine. Many thanks fron Nr Chester
Give me a kettle any day of the week. Not worth the money these machines imo. Although it does make for great viewing 👍
The vertuo capsules have a barcode - which tells the machine how much water it needs
You are good mate, really good. Nothing more that bad connectors and design. You deserve a medal, mate. 👍👍👍👍
A fine example of patience and craftsmanship. That cup of coffee must have tasted good!
The tenacity of a British Bulldog! Well done👍
You are the man ! I would have picked everything up after 15 min and tossed it into my garbage bin. What team of schmuck engineers designed that. As usual you were calm and performed the process of elimination . Great video, thanks.
This made me smile: I had an induction bolt heater and it had nothing in it but a big, heavy transformer, a big selenium rectifier, a coil and a condenser in the box. It somehow worked just fine without any other "electronics." 🙂
Hi, is it possible to bypass that board and run the power direct? Will the tool work?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's the most ridiculously complicated espresso machine I've ever seen, Lord forbid you heat up water on a stove, no we need three microcontrollers......
Another quality fix, but all that to make a coffee 😂😂😂. What's wrong with a jar of coffee and kettle.
What a diabolic thing. I'd never have got it back together. Well done!
way too complicated for a simple coffee machine lol
Great video and well done for persevering with it most would say BER
On my Keurig you typically need the water tank attached and filled with water. Otherwise it just flashes with an error. Haven't finished the video yet but all that plastic looks like quite a pain in the ass, Good job on hanging in there Mick
It amazes me how you can remove things so small and resolder them without sticking the pins together with solder.
Flux mate, makes all the difference 👍
I agree all that for a cup of coffee. I used a keurig once I didn't like it.
Either way, one could be left feeling a mug after working on one of these…
😂😂😂😂😂
Great job! You are a special and persistent type person to get these nightmare repairs done. Most products these days are made for the junkyard as most people don't posses your type of qualities! Love to watch the vids though...
Thank you very much!
By far some of the most complex and annoying electronics I have ever fixed are coffee machines like Kureg. They are intentionally designed to be hard to repair.
Hmmm, if this was faulty ex the factory. I dont think much of their QC checks on components of products.
Yes, agree. This looks totally unused 👍
Love your dedication! It takes a lot of patients to stay at it ( or the coffee :) ) Also, How's the Kitten? Hurts the soul when there is a sick baby animal. My biggest soft spot.
Thanks 👍yes seems to be doing ok at the moment. It had a little food, so hopefully it's on the mend.
Mick I take my hat off to you sir!! Very well done. But err can I have a cuppa tea please?
😂😂😂Thanks ☕
Wait, why does the router need to be waterproof etc? Am I missing something? last time I looked at starlink it had a phased array antenna that sat on a roof or whatever, that obviously needs to be waterproof but isn't this just the WiFi AP/router it connects to?
Agree. The only thing I can think is possibly something like camping perhaps? 🤷♂️
Why this crap Noco is expensive and popular? I see a lot of tutorials and auctions with faulty Noco devices.
Yep, they don't seem very reliable also there appears to be no cell balancing just monitoring which I think is the cause of many of the problems.
So blasted complicated for a cup of coffee. Think of the time and money put into molds for all the plastic parts. Likely hundreds of hours of CAD to interlock all the plastics. Great tenacity on the diagnostics. Wonder why the sensor plastic cracked?
Thanks 👍not sure, perhaps assembled incorrectly or damaged by the person that sent it?
3 microcontrollers?? Whaaaaaaaaaat?! Who in their right mind would come up with an overly complex circuit design just to get a cup of coffee?! We are at the point that a coffee machine might have more processing power than some laptops.... Yet they do exist but they actually have multiple modes and also allow different coffee modes and different beans and grinding power and hot chocolate... This simple rubbish does not need 3 mcus. I had a coffee machine that did have a mcu because it had different settings but it just contained a 16 pin pic to control it all... No need for 3 mcus. Its like using 3 different computers just to fullfill 1 task.... We are also at the point that toasters have full computers inside just to control how dark your toast can be... I hate overly complex things that can be done in a much cheaper and simpler way. Ofcourse a bardcode reader because they are scared that they will loose money when you dont buy their capsules just like hp does with their cartridge chip bussinesss. Just wait until there are devices with 5 mcus to complete a simple task. 1 mcu for the barcode reader, 1 mcu for controlling the blcd motor, 1 cpu running Linux for the user interface comminucating with the barcode sensor and the motor mcu. 1 mcu for flashing a few leds and 1 mcu for button inputs and system it wont surprise me if this will become a real product in the future 😂
😂😂😂yes forget can bus, we can have CoffeeBus(TM) 😂😂😂
All of that and in the end all you have is a cup of stale coffee. 😂
😂😂😂👍
Nice one!
Brilliant fix, cheers Mick 😁
Thanks Mike 👍
That was a nightmare of a fix and you said you needed a coffee, well after that I need a brandy with my coffee !!!
😂😂😂😂👍
